Different A/C Vehicle Systems

What is the difference between A/C Systems? Graham Auto Repair Blog

Understanding the Different Types of Vehicle A/C Systems & Machines

Keeping your vehicle cool during the hot summer months is essential for comfort and safety. But did you know that different vehicles use different types of A/C machines? At Graham Auto Repair we service both older and newer vehicles. We want to help you understand the differences between the two main types of vehicle A/C systems and machines: R-134a and R-1234yf.

What are A/C Machines? Graham Auto Repair Blog

A/C machines are specialized equipment we use to service your vehicle’s air conditioning system. They recover, recycle, and recharge refrigerant, which is also known as Freon. This is done to ensure your A/C system works efficiently and effectively. We have two different machines at Graham Auto Repair: the Robinair 34788NI which handles the R-134a refrigerant specifically; and our Snap-on Machine, which can handle both systems.

R-134a A/C Vehicle Systems:

R-134a refrigerant has been the standard in automotive air conditioning since the mid-1990s. Both of our machines are designed to service older vehicles with this system. You will typically find this system in vehicles manufactured prior to 2015. With our machines we can perform essential functions like refrigerant recovery, recycling, and recharging.

R-1234yf A/C Vehicle Systems:

The R-1234yf was introduced as an environmentally friendly alternative. The R-1234yf refrigerant is used in most vehicles manufactured after 2015. Our Snap-on machines are equipped to handle the newer refrigerant and come with advanced diagnostic and leak detection capabilities.

What are the key differences between AC Systems - Graham Auto Repair Blog

  • Refrigerant Types: R-134a and R-1234yf
  • Environmental Impact: The R-1234yf has been shown to be more environmentally friendly.
  • Compatibility: The R-134a is typically in older vehicles, manufactured prior to 2015. The R-1234yf is typically in newer vehicles, manufactured after 2015.
  • Price Difference: The R-1234yf is generally more expensive due to its advanced technology.

Why This Matters:

Understanding these differences ensures you receive the best possible service for your vehicle. At Graham Auto Repair, our expert technicians are trained to handle both types of A/C systems and machines. This enables us to provide you with top-notch service no matter what vehicle you drive!
