Winter is here! Many of us are getting ready to travel for the holidays. You may be asking, "How do I prepare my car for winter driving? It can seem like a daunting task. But we're here to help you! With these 4 maintenance services, you will be better prepared on the road this winter. We also have 1 more bonus tip for you at the end!
1. Tire Rotation
One of the most important services to prepare your car for winter is a tire rotation. When you don't rotate your tires, they wear down unevenly. This can lead to dangerous conditions while driving in the snow. It's super important to have good tire grip when driving on ice and in the snow! By rotating your tires every few months, you'll help them to wear evenly. This will prolong the life of your tires as well.
2. Change Your Air Filter & Cabin Air Filter
Did you know that most vehicles have more than one air filter? There is the engine air filter and the cabin air filter. It's important to change both regularly. The engine air filter can get clogged with dirt and debris. When that happens, it's not able to provide the engine with enough air for optimal performance.
The cabin air filter protects your vehicle interior from pollution, allergens, and odors. During the summer months in Washington, we tend to have a lot more smoke and allergens. Change out the cabin air filter to circulate better air for you and your passengers this winter.
3. Cooling System Service
Another important part of winter preparation involves the engine coolant. The coolant, otherwise known as antifreeze, protects your vehicle from freezing in the winter weather. You want to make sure your vehicle has the correct type of coolant and that it's filled to the recommended level. By completing a Cooling System Flush your vehicle will be better protected this winter.
4. Oil Change Service
The engine oil is the life of your vehicle! How does an oil service keep your engine running smoothly? By removing dirt, contaminants, and other particles that build up over time. When left unchecked, these things can damage or even destroy your engine. By replacing the oil regularly, it reduces the friction inside the engine. Too much friction causes your engine to wear down more quickly. How often do you need to change your oil? That depends on how often you drive. If you are unsure, we recommend that you have your engine oil serviced every 3 months. It helps to remember if you do it once every season change!
You completed all of the recommended winter services. Now it's time to hit the road! Here are a few things to check before you start driving: heater, battery, tire tread, brakes, windshield wipers.
